Is My Business Any of God’s Business?

The separation of church and state seems to be the battle cry of our nation today. We’ve long heard advice against speaking about religion or politics. While politics and especially the discussion of political correctness is now mainstream, walls still go up with the mention of God, faith, or most threatening, Jesus Christ.

In reality, a Christian business owner is at a distinct advantage. God cares about us, He cares about our businesses, whether they are effective and successful or not. Consider for example what he says in Psalms 1.

Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers. But they delight in the law of the LORD, meditating on it day and night.

They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.

But not the wicked! They are like worthless chaff, scattered by the wind. They will be condemned at the time of judgment. Sinners will have no place among the godly. For the LORD watches over the path of the godly, but the path of the wicked leads to destruction.[1]

One need only understand the reality of God to start down a logical path that the Creator of the universe is the best to explain to us the laws, spiritual, natural, and behavioral defining our existence. It doesn’t take any mental gymnastics to appreciate that understanding the laws that define and govern us is synonymous to understanding the rules of the game.

It is possible, and we can point to dozens if not thousands of individuals and companies that realize monetary or popular success while proclaim their self-sufficiency and their ability to ascend apart from or even contrary to God. A study of their success will however expose two significant discoveries. For one, we watch that these businesses almost never succeed to a second generation, or even a change in leadership. And a deeper review will always find that the success is built upon a prostitution of the laws God designed into creation. For example a behavioral law is that we are created for community. Several industries (example prostitution and drug usage) offer a substitute for true companionship.

At Eagles’ Wings Business Coaching, we are bold to explain that it is only in understanding and cooperating with the laws of God, that we can find true and lasting success. Our mission is built upon Isaiah 40:31.

But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.
